Warfield Redevelopment Project Clears Final Hurdle

The Board of Public Works today removed the final obstacle from a long-planned redevelopment project that will transform vacant old Springfield Hospital buildings into the most ambitious commercial project ever attempted in Carroll County.

“Now it’s full speed ahead on the economic engine that will help bring new jobs and improvements to Carroll County,” said Delegate Susan Krebs after testifying before the Board of Public Works today.

The Board, composed of Governor Robert Ehrlich, Comptroller William Donald Schaefer and Treasurer Nancy Kopp, voted unanimously to revise an agreement between the state and Sykesville so that the Warfield Corporate and Culture Center can proceed. Sykesville, which engineered the plan to create the project, sought the change to eliminate the possibility that Warfield could revert back to the state even after businesses make massive investments in renovations.
