Delegate Krebs Urges Qualified Homeowners to Take Part in New Tax Credit Program
Deadline to Apply is October 31
Delegate Susan Krebs is urging qualified homeowners to seek property tax relief under a newly expanded tax credit program that will benefit more than 4,000 additional Maryland households.
Households with incomes of up to $60,000 may be eligible for the tax break if their property assessment is a maximum of $300,000. Governor Ehrlich proposed the expanded property tax credit to ensure that homeowners are not forced out of their houses by skyrocketing assessments. A bill reflecting the Governor’s initiative passed the Legislature unanimously in March. The maximum assessment for program eligibility previously was $150,000.
The state has extended the filing deadline for the new tax credit program to October 31. Applications may be obtained by calling Delegate Krebs’ office at 410-841-3200 or by visiting www.dat.state.md.us, the state Department of Assessments and Taxation website.
