Local residents might not be surprised, but CNNMoney.com this month ranked the community of Eldersburg as No. 56 in its list of 100 Great American Towns and "Best Places to Live."
Starting with a list of 2,876 towns with populations above 7,500 and under 50,000, the study, affiliated with Money magazine, used a variety of factors to prepare the list, including income, diversity, student test scores, crime statistics, access to services, housing costs and leisure opportunities.

In its evaluation of the 'burg, the CNN analysis specifically sited recent growth and its balance with small town charm among Eldersburg's appealing attributes.

"Eldersburg has grown at an impressive clip in recent years," wrote the CNNMoney staff. "Yet it's still a small, quiet town, it's lush hills dotted with old churches and houses and the sprawling Liberty Reservoir offers hiking trails and gorgeous scenery."

"It's not surprising that we would be chosen for something like that," said Del. Susan Krebs. "We are a great place to live and raise families, that's why I've lived here for 24 years."

Krebs said statistics aside, it's the people who make Eldersburg a wonderful community. She specifically noted how families rally around school events and support neighbors in times of need.
